Spinal tumors can either originate within the vertebral column, called primary tumors or they can spread from other parts of the body, called secondary. They can be benign or malignant, and they can be differentiated with a spinal biopsy. The tumours can weaken the bone and cause fractures, called a pathological fracture, leading to pain in the back. The type of tumor determines the final treatment.
